HUANG Jieyuan
HUANG Jieyuan is an interdisciplinary visual artist and art project-based researcher working in Linz, Austria, and online. In his recent work, he develops images, videos, installations, new-media projects, and research programs in the fields of technical and mechanical imaging and mixed media. HUANG’s practice uses the image as a thread to explore issues such as the ethics of machine technology in digital contexts, the subjectivity of artificial intelligence and the combination of artistic research on media and digital humanities. He holds an MA from the Berlin University of the Arts, pursued a PhD while lecturing at the University of Art and Design Linz, and served as a visiting scholar at HKUST (GZ). He also studied in the EDM class led by Professor Hito Steyerl at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich.
In the realm of media art festivals, he has participated at Ars Electronica multiple times (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), the 20th and 21st editions of ADAF (2024, 2025), Stuttgarter Filmwinter – Festival for Expanded Media (2023) and Die Digitale Düsseldorf (2022). On the national and biennial level, his work has been featured in the 13th and 14th National Art Exhibition China (2019, 2024), Chengdu Biennale (2021). His institutional exhibitions includes the CCI Lab, Ars Electronica Center, Linz, Austria (2021), ATELIER, PACT Zollverein, Essen, Germany (2023), Evolution – The Future of the Public, Central Academy of Fine Arts Art Museum, Langfang, China (2021), Flash, A4 Museum, Chengdu, China (2020), and Art Nova 100, Guardian Art Center, Beijing, China (2020, 2021). Additionally, he presented his personal project on the virtual platform of X Museum (2023). He has received or been selected for awards and competitions, including National Art Exhibition (2024, 2019), Lentos Freunde Kunstpreis (2024, 2021), APENFT Art Dream Fund (2023), Renovators (2022), SAP Art Award (2021), Raiden INST Support Program (2021), Today Art Museum Future Artist (2019). He has also presented projects and researches at conferences and affiliated galleries on art and technology, including ISEA, CVPR AI Art, IEEE AIART, and Artech.
